Daniel Lanois on the Sam the Record Man sign:

October 3rd, 2013

“Ah where would we be without the magnificent monoliths of Canadian culture?

We tireless troubadours travel the world representing Oh Canada!
And when we come home we look to the home bodies like Sam The Record Man to keep the home fires burning, Sam did exactly that for his entire lifetime. Providing Canadians with the most comprehensive assortment of fabulous music.

We owe it to Sam and to this great country to honor the very thing that is left, The Sam The Record Man sign, lit up as a reminder of who we are as lovers of music.

This year I was pleased to receive the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award in Ottawa….the Governor General gave quite a speech about Canada being a great arts nation, “We support the arts”, was the message.
Let’s prove him right by supporting the restoration and maintenance of this iconic Yonge St. masterpiece.”
