Colin Cripps of Blue Rodeo To Present Guitar Made From ‘Maple Leaf Forever’ Tree At City Hall
September 17th, 2015
Colin Cripps of Blue Rodeo will discuss the crafting of an electric and an acoustic guitar from the Maple Leaf Forever tree as a legacy project for Toronto-based musicians. Cripps will display one of the guitars at the Economic Development Committee meeting Friday, September 18 at 9:30 AM in Committee Room 1, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.
This year, Cripps is playing the acoustic guitar and Paul Langlois of The Tragically Hip is playing the electric guitar. Cripps’s presentation on Friday is part of a larger review of the City’s facilitation of more than 150 designs using the tree’s wood. More than 4,000 individual items were made from the one tree, including a new lectern and gavel for the council chamber at City Hall.
The tree is believed to have been the inspiration for Alexander Muir’s song “The Maple Leaf Forever.” Since the tree fell in a summer storm in 2013, the City has engaged in activities with local designers and wood crafts people to preserve the tree’s legacy.
