CTV Toronto: Ford reveals what he learned from Texas music trip
October 24th, 2013
CTV Toronto reports on developments to grow Toronto’s music sector, which has significant momentum following the recent music business mission to Austin ,Texas, which led to the world’s first music city alliance between the two cities.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says the plan is to create an Music Office to liaise between the City and the local industry, which will help businesses navigate the red tape around issues like licensing, postering, and parking. “That’s what we’re excited about, said Music Canada President Graham Henderson. “If it means big music festivals come here that aren’t here, that’s great. If it means local music festivals that are already here get bigger, that’s great.”
One of the takeaways from the Austin trip was the need for marketing, recommending that the right setup could bring hundreds of thousands of tourists to Toronto. “We don’t brag enough about how great this city is for people in the music industry,” said Mayor Ford. “It would be a win-win, for everybody here in this city, and for tourists.”
