Sonic Boom

Neighbourhood: Annex

Address: 782 Bathurst St

Located under the infamous bright lights of Honest Ed’s, Sonic Boom has always been the go-to record shop for vinyl lovers in the Annex. If vinyl isn’t your thing, they still boast an impressive new and used CD collection in their warehouse sized shop. This year, Sonic Boom will be hosting an entire day of giveaways and in-store performances, kicking off at 12 PM with Luke Lalonde of Born Ruffians. The full schedule for performances can be found in the details of their Facebook event.

Note: Sonic Boom has a 2nd location in Kensington Market at 201 Augusta Ave. While there won’t be any performances, make sure to visit Kensington for even more great deals and limited releases.

June Records

Neighbourhood: Little Italy

Address: 662 College St

Since opening in 2012, June Records have become known in the community for their friendly and helpful staff, as well as their fantastic prices on new and used vinyl. For the true Little Italy/RSD experience, buy an ice cream cone first from The Big Chill at Manning Ave, walk west a few blocks and (before entering) enjoy the music pouring out onto the College strip from the shop’s speakers.

Sunrise Records

Neighbourhood: Downtown

Location: 336 Yonge St

Across the street from Ryerson University where Sam The Record Man once stood, Sunrise has always been your go-to stop downtown for music and memorabilia. This year, Barenaked Ladies will be stopping by at 1 PM for a performance and signing. Then at 6:30 legendary Paul Rodgers will be in-store for an autograph session. Rotate This

Neighbourhood: Queen West/Trinity Bellwoods

Address: 801 Queen St W

Exclusive titles and plenty of used vinyl to dig through. Rotate This is usually a lot of people’s first stop of the day, so if you have your eye on any of the limited titles being released, make sure to get in line before the doors open up.

Cabin Fever

Neighbourhood: High Park

Address: 1669 Bloor St W

Do you like coffee? Do you like buying records? Just east of High Park, Cabin Fever has got you covered. They’ve got a pretty cool Instagram contest going on right now where you can win some of the titles for RSD 2014. All you need to do is write down you answers to the scrambled album covers on a piece of paper along with a drawing of a dinosaur on a jet-ski (that part is not a joke, see below).
