Reggae Lane To Celebrate Official Unveiling September 19

September 11th, 2015

On September 19, 2015, Councillor Josh Colle, The STEPS Initiative and The Laneway Project invite the public to the official unveiling of Reggae Lane, located in the heart of Toronto’s Little Jamaica community at 1531 Eglinton Avenue West (Eglinton/Oakwood).

The free event will celebrate the reveal of a 1,200 sq ft reggae-themed mural by Adrian Hayles Productions, the installation of a new heritage plaque, and the development of a Master Plan for what is now officially known as Reggae Lane.

The introduction of Reggae Lane is part of ongoing efforts by the the City of Toronto and York-Eglinton BIA to honour the roots of the Toronto Reggae scene. Other efforts include the establishment of The Toronto Reggae Hall Of Fame, which honoured its first ever inductees Leroy Sibbles, Jay Douglas, Bernie Pitters and Everton Pablo Paul on August 27, 2015 on stage at the CNE Bandshell. Councillor Colle along with Councillors John Fillion, Michael Thompson, and Shelley Carroll from the Toronto Music Advisory Council were present at the event to help with the induction.

“I am hoping that by recognizing these legendary performers and establishing Reggae Lane we will bring a positive light to Eglinton Avenue West and highlight the significance of this essential part of Toronto’s music history.” said Councillor Colle in a release.
